The Nightmare
She wakes with a start. Her heart racing and her breathing uneven she reaches for her phone. It’s 3 am. She can’t figure out why she’s so panicked. Why she’s even awake.
Lucy sits bolt upright and hits the lamp next to her. As the room is bathed suddenly in a soft but bright light, her eyes flit over her apartment. Something’s not right. Something is just, off.
She pulls her sheet around herself and slides out of bed. She doesn’t know why but she reaches for the knife she was using at dinner. Clutching it in her free hand she edges away from her bed towards the rest of the apartment.
It’s small, a studio. Even though she can’t put a finger on why, her body is screaming that she’s in danger.
Something tells her to look to her left.
The door is open.
Very cool

Spooky. Saturday’s over at my blog ‘Between the Lines’ is a feature day for fellow writers/artists. This month’s theme is ‘Nightmares’ and I was wondering if I could reblog this?

Another feature. This short story is the first installment in misskrizzm’s ‘The Nightmare’ series. The spook factor is strong in this one.
